Mechanical ventilation modes utilization. An international survey of clinicians

چکیده

Abstract: Background There has been an exponential increase in modes of mechanical ventilation over the last couple decades. With this increase, there have paucity evidence which mode is superior to others or much guidance use a different disease status causing respiratory failure. Methods: An international survey six questions was posted on “society ventilation” website and advertised social media period four months. This descriptive study, results are presented two ways. First as total used secondly, per geographical areas preferred mode, mostly ARDS, COPD, Spontaneous weaning trials. Results: Conventional older modes, Volume-controlled Pressure-controlled were significantly more general states irrespective location. Four other almost equally all Pressure support most common during spontaneous breathing trial. Conclusion: large heterogenicity between clinicians general, locations. Mechanical utilization varies widely remains personal preference with no consensus globally. Keywords: Modes ventilation, SBT,

Decisional responsibility for mechanical ventilation and weaning: an international survey

INTRODUCTION Optimal management of mechanical ventilation and weaning requires dynamic and collaborative decision making to minimize complications and avoid delays in the transition to extubation. In the absence of collaboration, ventilation decision making may be fragmented, inconsistent, and delayed. Our objective was to describe the professional group with responsibility for key ventilation ...

Novel modes of mechanical ventilation.

The overarching goal of positive pressure mechanical ventilation is to provide adequate gas exchange support while not causing harm. Indeed, positive pressure mechanical ventilators are only support technologies, not therapeutic technologies. As such they cannot be expected to "cure" disease; they can only "buy time" for other therapies (including the patient's own defenses) to work.Conventiona...

UPDATE IN INTENSIVE CARE MEDICINE: MECHANICAL VENTILATION New modes of assisted mechanical ventilation

Recent major advances in mechanical ventilation have resulted in new exciting modes of assisted ventilation. Compared to traditional ventilation modes such as assisted-controlled ventilation or pressure support ventilation, these new modes offer a number of physiological advantages derived from the improved patient control over the ventilator. By implementing advanced closed-loop control system...

New modes of mechanical ventilation: proportional assist ventilation, neurally adjusted ventilatory assist, and fractal ventilation.

Increased knowledge of the mechanisms that determine respiratory failure has led to the development of new technologies aimed at improving ventilatory treatment. Proportional assist ventilation and neurally adjusted ventilatory assist have been designed with the goal of improving patient-ventilator interaction by matching the ventilator support with the neural output of the respiratory centers....

Effects of various modes of mechanical ventilation in normal rats.

BACKGROUND Recent studies in healthy mice and rats have reported that positive pressure ventilation delivered with physiological tidal volumes at normal end-expiratory volume worsens lung mechanics and induces cytokine release, thus suggesting that detrimental effects are due to positive pressure ventilation per se. The aim of this study in healthy animals is to assess whether these adverse out...
